The Mid-Atlantic Cake Show and Wedding Cake Competition was started in 2006 by the Maryland and Virginia Chapters of the International Cake Exploration Societé in Howard County, Maryland.  The first year we out-grew our facility before the show even began!  In 2007, we moved to the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster, MD.  We were located in the smaller buildings of the center and, again, out-grew the space.  In 2008, we moved to the large, spacious arena at the Agriculture Center with everything under one roof, where we had a hugely successful show.

The Committee, as a whole, decided to split the show into two separate shows.  So now, the show in Maryland will be known as the Great American Cake Show and Wedding Cake Competition. We will be located in the same facility as the former Mid-Atlantic Cake Show, the Shipley Arena, of the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster, Maryland.

We are preparing for another great show on May 2nd and 3rd of 2009! Through our show, we hope to encourage and promote the sugar arts and the International Cake Exploration Societé (ICES).  ICES is a “not-for-profit” organization that promotes and provides opportunities for continuing education, development of future sugar artists, and enjoyment of the art form in a sharing environment. Our cake show is one of the top shows and competitions in the sugar arts east of the Mississippi River, and has gained national attention since its inception. The show is staffed entirely by volunteers with a common goal of sharing the beauty of sugar art and this educational opportunity with the ICES membership and the public.

Our Show has two separate competitions…the Wedding Cake Competition and the Divisional Competition.  In the Wedding Cake Competition, entrants must decorate a wedding cake to match our chosen theme, plus decorate the table.  The Divisional Competition places entrants in different levels based on their skill from youth to master decorators.  Prizes and cash will be awarded in each competition.

Throughout the two-day show, demonstrations in the sugar arts, hands-on classes and live competitions will be held.  There will be numerous vendors selling cake related products.  You will be amazed at the spectacular cakes and sugar art on display!

We have chosen to support Share our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale, which provides food for needy children in the United States.  Funds raised through Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale will be used to ensure America's most vulnerable children get the regular, healthy meals they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
